EXCELLENT ALL AROUND WOODS HAWK - This hawk has some good heft which actually makes it a good chopper and splitter. The blade and the flat hammering side aren't so different in weight that the hawk wants to twist around when pounding with the hammer side. The handle is an excellent length bordering on slightly long, but that's Ok as you can always cut some off if you want to. The hawk head is hammer finished and coated with an unbelievably tough and slick coating so it resists rust and won't gunk up. For those wondering about it, the under side of the blade is swedged but not sharpened which may be hard to tell from the picture. Lastly the hawk came with a kydex guard on it which I've actually kept. I carry the hawk in a ring holster and put the kydex guard on it so I don't cut my side open. This hawk is a no brainer and easily the best woods hawk out there.
