Smith & Wesson BAT16H 16" Collapsible Stick

I guess it seems sturdy, yet the very top section of the baton seems to be permanently jammed in place after the 1st time I tested out the product to see how fast it can extend out. Now I got a product that isn't very concealable & does not fit in to the carry case that came along with the product. I've tried my best to hammer the top of this to see if I can get it to collapse back down & no luck at all. I'm worried I'll end up bending the baton before I can even get it to release.
